Choosing your display film

Choose between translucent backlit media and transparent clear display film. Norvatex supplies unprinted PET films for professional wide-format printing; the material, ink system and finished display must be considered together.

Backlit film or clear display film?

Satin backlit film, 215µ (215SSB): a satin-finish polyester film for compatible illuminated signs, retail lightboxes and exhibition graphics. Supplied in 1,372mm × 30m rolls.

Gloss backlit film, 201µ (201SGB): a gloss printable face with a light-diffusing reverse coating for appropriate lightbox applications. Available in 914mm, 1,270mm, 1,372mm and 1,524mm widths, each 30m long.

High-clarity clear display film, 142µ (142SGC): a transparent gloss PET film for point-of-sale graphics, clear overlays, partitions and double-sided printed designs. Available in 762mm, 1,372mm and 1,524mm widths, each 30m long. It is a clear print film, not self-adhesive window cling, and should not be assumed to diffuse light or replace backlit film in a lightbox.

Applications by material

  • Illuminated retail signs and menu boards: choose an appropriate backlit grade and test it in the intended lightbox.
  • Exhibition and advertising displays: match satin or gloss backlit media to the lighting and mounting system.
  • Transparent point-of-sale graphics and overlays: consider the clear display film where optical transparency is required.
  • Double-sided designs and partitions: test the clear film with the intended ink layers, including white ink where required.

Printing and selection

The listed backlit and clear display grades support UV, latex and solvent/eco-solvent processes, subject to testing with the specific printer and inks. Print the gloss backlit material on its gloss face. The clear film can use white-ink layers for suitable double-sided effects; confirm your printer supports the intended process.

For backlit work, inspect colour, ink coverage and diffusion both illuminated and unlit. For clear display work, test transparency, handling, drying and ink adhesion. Request current grade-specific technical documentation for any project-specific fire or other performance requirement.
