Choosing dry-wipe laminate for printed graphics
A dry-wipe laminate adds a writable, wipe-clean surface over suitable graphics or boards. Choose the printed base, laminate and finished support as a system, then test them with the markers and cleaning method the customer will use.
Print the graphic, then apply the overlaminate
Norvatex’s High-Gloss Dry-Erase Protective Overlaminate is a clear PVC-free PET film with a hard-coat surface and permanent pressure-sensitive adhesive. It is intended for interior applications over suitable smooth substrates.
The overlaminate is not printable. Produce the artwork on a suitable printable base, follow that material and ink system’s preparation requirements, then laminate the compatible graphic. If a whiteboard-style background is required, it must come from the base or printed construction; the laminate itself is clear.
Potential uses include workplace planning boards, printed schedules, classroom graphics and reusable retail display panels. Confirm the construction for the actual use rather than assuming any printed surface will laminate successfully.
Compare the complete construction
| Requirement | Check before production |
|---|---|
| Printed base | Confirm ink, coating and laminate compatibility with the suppliers and printer. |
| Supporting board | Use a suitably smooth, stable support. Surface texture and defects can affect the finished appearance. |
| Writable surface | Trial the actual dry-erase markers, colours and cleaning method. |
| Appearance | Assess the high-gloss finish under the intended lighting and viewing angle. |
| Format | Check usable laminator width, finished panel size and edge finishing. |
The product is offered in 1,372mm and 1,524mm widths with a 50m roll length. The published face-film thickness is 90µ; total construction thickness is a separate measurement. See the product specification for the complete construction and current ordering options.
Test a representative finished board
- Prepare a production sample. Use the actual graphic, ink, supporting substrate and proposed lamination process.
- Check the bond and appearance. Look for bubbles, lifting, uneven contact or defects that affect the graphic.
- Write with the intended markers. Test more than one colour where relevant, including fine detail and larger filled areas.
- Agree a dwell-time test. Assess erasing after a period representative of how the customer will leave writing on the board.
- Approve cleaning and maintenance. Confirm the permitted cleaning method and pass the agreed guidance to the end user.
The product specification describes a scratch-resistant hard-coat surface designed to resist dry-erase staining. That does not remove the need to test the chosen markers and cleaning process. Ask for product guidance before using unfamiliar cleaners or making a long-term performance promise.
Request a material sample for your trial or discuss a printed-board project. Include the printable base, ink system, panel dimensions, intended markers and quantity.
Questions about dry-wipe film
Are dry-wipe and dry-erase the same application here?
Both terms describe the writable, erasable application of this overlaminate. Select suitable dry-erase markers and verify their performance on the actual finished surface.
Can I print directly on this film?
No. This grade is a protective overlaminate. Apply it over a suitable printed graphic or board.
Will this turn any wall into a whiteboard?
Do not assume that it will. The film needs a suitable smooth construction and a compatible permanent adhesive bond. Plan and test the supporting surface, graphic and laminate together.
